Adopt-A-Park

Who can adopt a park?

Any community, civic, or service organization, neighborhood group, or individual can participate in the Adopt-A-Park program.

What does it mean to “adopt” a park?

Participants agree to take a special interest in a specific park by walking through the property once a week during the months of May, June, July, August, September, and October, picking up litter and looking for damage or maintenance problems of any nature. Inspection forms are then filled out and filed with the Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department identifying the problem. Plastic bags will be furnished by the Department to the designated group as needed and requested. Filled plastic bags will be deposited in the parks’ dumpsters or a designated area in each park.

A schedule will be issued before May 1 indicating which groups are responsible for various parks in the City.

Where are parks located that are available for adoption?

All City parks are available for adoption. Larger parks such as Centennial Park, which includes the All Children’s Playground, and Cedar Creek Park can be divided into smaller areas to be adopted. The Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department has a list of parks currently available for adoption.

Why is this program important?

Every person involved in the Adopt-A-Park Program helps to preserve the beautiful park lands in our community. When problems are reported promptly, they can be repaired quickly and parks remain safe and inviting places to visit. Vandalism is greatly reduced, which in turn reduces maintenance expenses.
